Professional Outreach
Why Reach Athletes?
Why reach Athletes specifically professional athletes? Aren't there more needy segments of society that we should be concentrating on? Why would any ministry spend their time, energy, and resources targeting such a specific group of people?

Coach's Outreach
Reaching Coaches
One of the most exciting developments within Champions for Christ is the formation of the National College Coaches Ministry. Coaches have a unique position of leadership and influence at almost every level of society.

International Outreach
Reaching the Nations
Over the past few decades sport has increasingly become an international language. Take for example these recent statistics from around the world: nine of the fifteen highest rated television programs in United States history have been professional sporting events.

The Champions' Way:
Ed Schilling

Ed Schilling is a 1984 graduate of Lebanon High School where he was a standout player for the Tigers. He played at Miami (Ohio) University where he was a four-year starter, two-year captain and still holds RedHawks' records for assists in a game(17), season (241) and career (629).

Schilling spent seven seasons as varsity coach at Western Boone and Logansport high schools. He later was an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts and for the New Jersey Nets, head coach at Wright State University and an assistant coach at the University of Memphis. Schilling currently is the Executive Director and trainer for Champions Academy, a basketball training academy in Indianapolis with a focus on fundamentals.

In addition, other Champions Academy staff will contribute to entries. Those assisting Schilling in the effort are Dave Jamerson, a former NBA player with Houston, Utah, New Jersey and Minnesota who averaged 31.2 points as a senior at Ohio University; Dave Manzer, an assistant at the Division I level for 10 seasons and a head coach at the Division III level for seven seasons; and Tom Coursey, a former Indiana high school all-state football player and high school basketball coach for both boys and girls.

One more contributor will be Ed Schilling Sr. The elder Schilling was an All-City basketball player and high jump state champion at Cleveland (Ohio) East High School before attending Butler University, where he averaged 20.7 points and 12.3 rebounds in his final two seasons with the Bulldogs. He later coached at Marian College and then a professor at IUPUI, spending 27 years training hundreds of aspiring teachers and coaches.
